Daniel William Zampino Sr., 93, of Tolland, beloved widow to Michelina (Golino), passed away peacefully on Friday, December 16, 2011. He was born July 29, 1918 to the late Pasquale and Josephine (Ferrano) Zampino in New York, New York. He is survived by his children Daniel W. Zampino Jr. and his wife Angela of Marblehead, MA; Paula (Zampino) Robinson and her husband Jack of Tolland, CT; Dianne (Zampino) Vanacore and her husband Peter of Westboro, MA, his grandchildren: Adam Zampino, Michael Robinson, Sarah Vanacore, Carolyn Robinson, Kirk Vanacore, and Mark Vanacore. He is also survived by 2 great-grandchildren, as well as his sister, Philomena Westrack, of New York. Daniel graduated in 1936 from DeWitt Clinton High School, which at that time was noted for being one of the best schools in the U.S. He then attended FIT School for a year, where he received his training in fashion design, from there he went on to his “Old School” training where he apprenticed for years to design fashion coats. He was recognized by the New York Times in an article featuring his design for a full length down style coat. One of his biggest accomplishments was when he had become a Head Designer at the age of 30. Daniel was a real family man who adored his family. He was devoted to his children, grandchildren, and his great-grandchildren. He was proud to have served his country in WWII. He was modest, and will truly be missed.
