Salvatore J. Firetto
Salvatore J. Firetto, 88, of Vernon, formerly of Tolland, beloved husband of the late Norma (Carney) Firetto, passed away Tuesday, January 19, 2016. He was born July 12, 1927 in Hartford, son of the late Giuseppe “Joseph” and Jennie (Labella) Firetto. He graduated from Hartford High School, served in the Army during WWII, a veteran of Foreign Wars. Sal was a proud member and retired from the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local Union 35. He was a huge UCONN Women’s Husky fan, he loved to garden, bowl and go to the casino. Sal looked forward to every Tuesday and Thursday where he would play cards at the Vernon Senior Center; always having a good time and enjoying the company of many special friends. Family was always first and they meant the world to him. He married the love of his life Norma in November 1955 and had four children. He is survived by his children Joe W. Firetto and wife Nadine, Bill Firetto and wife Marion with whom he made his home, Rose Gay and husband Jeff, and Jean Firetto and his son-in-law Jim Tremont. He also leaves his nine grandchildren Jennie Georgiades, Crystal DaVila, Maria Gay, Joey Firetto, Billy Firetto, Shannon Firetto Brown, Ashley Tremont, Joshua Tremont, and Brittany Tremont and his 16 great grandchildren who were adored by their “Big Poppie” as well as his special god child, Joseph Carney and his dear sister-in-law Sylvia Lewis and many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may join the family on Thursday, January 21, 2016 from 3-7 PM at the Small & Pietras Funeral Home, 65 Elm Street, Rockville, CT 06066.
