Obituary for Agnes L. McCarthy

Agnes L. McCarthy
Agnes L. (White) McCarthy, 102, of Vernon passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 8, 2017 in Woodlake At Tolland. Born in Corinth, NY on February 8, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Charles Fredrick and Lillian (Reed) White. Agnes graduated from Corinth High School with honors and Albany Business College. In 1943 she moved with her husband, Raymond D. McCarthy, to Manchester where she lived for many years before moving to Vernon. Finally, her grandson, Daniel Morgan, moved her to a specially built apartment in his home in Stafford. A retiree of Hamilton Standard, she was an Inspector in the Space and Life Division. At the height of the Gemini and Apollo missions she was on first name basis with many of the Astronauts who had their space suits made there. Agnes enjoyed quilting, ceramics, her flower gardens, traveling with her group of friends and cooking her specialties for the family. Her finely made quilts, framed hooked rugs and ceramics are family heirlooms. She is survived by her daughter, Sylvia Morgan and her husband Chester of Vernon, three grandchildren, Kevin Morgan and his wife Colleen of Ellington, Daniel Morgan and his wife Darlene of Stafford and Laura Laskey and her husband Robert of Vernon, eight great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren. Private funeral services will be at the family’s convenience. There will be no calling hours. Memorial donations in her name may be made to the CT National Guard Foundation Inc., 360 Broad Street, Hartford, CT 06105. Burke Fortin Funeral Home, 76 Prospect St., Rockville is in charge of arrangements. Agnes’s family would like to thank the staff of Woodlake At Tolland for the loving and dignified care given to her.
