Alice Irene (Klee) Kalas, 97, of Ellington passed away peacefully Sunday, January 15, 2017 at the Village at Buckland Court. She was born August 15, 1919 in Rockville to the late Fredrick and Mabel (Weber) Klee. Alice was very involved in the Rockville/Ellington community all of her life. She worked as a Teachers Aid at Windermere School in Ellington and St. Bernard’s Church Catholic School in Rockville. Alice volunteered at Rockville General Hospital for 43 years, belonged to the Hope Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star #60, The Ellington Historical Society and the Triple S Club in Rockville. She enjoyed being a Scout leader, and enjoyed all crafts, especially stained glass and pottery. Alice is survived by her sisters; Dorothy Morganson of Vernon and Barbara Hoffman and her husband Donald of Connecticut and Florida; her grandchildren; Deborah Henderson, Dennis Eckels, Denise Meyer, Dawn Eckels, Daniel Eckels and Kathryn Alexogiannis; 12 great-grandchildren, seven great-great grandchildren and a very special friend William “Bill” Robert. Besides her parents, Alice was predeceased by her first husband Joseph Eckels and her husband Adolph Kalas, her son Francis Eckels, her brother William Klee and her sisters Pearl Pitney and Doris Morganson. Relatives and friends may join the family on Thursday, January 19, 2017 from 4 – 6 pm at Burke-Fortin Funeral Home, 76 Prospect st, Rockville. A Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 am on Friday, January 20, 2017 at Ellington Congregational Church, Main St, Ellington. Burial will follow at Ellington Center Cemetery.
