Charles H. Bigelow, 84, of Tolland, CT passed peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Monday, January 30, 2017. He was born on April 3, 1932 in Fall River, MA to the late Emma (Purcell) and Walter L. Bigelow. He was married to his loving wife Wanda for 62 years. He was very proud to serve in the United States Air Force in Korea between January 13, 1951 to December 17, 1954. He was a member of the Manchester VFW. He was an owner-operator of a trucking company for 40 years before retiring. Growing up next to the water inspired his love for sailing and he was a zealous Boston Red Sox fan. The defining characteristic of Charles was his immense love for his family and the joy he experienced sharing his stories with them. He had a passion for history and keeping history alive. In addition to his devoted wife of 62 years, he is survived by his loving family; daughter, Gail Charron and her husband Chris Charron, his daughter Lori Herrick and her husband Jeffery Herrick, his eight grandchildren, Bruce, Brian, Jessica, Sheri, Jeffery, Jennelle, Serena, and Dawn, As well as his six great grandchildren Taylor, Janelle, Madeline, Lucas, Orwell, and Golding, and lastly, his brother Billy. Besides his parents, Charles is predeceased by his daughter Marilyn Bigelow and his brothers Walter and Clinton Bigelow. Friends and relatives are invited to attend calling hours on Friday, February 3, 2017 between 4pm-6pm at the Tolland Memorial Funeral Home located at 375 Merrow Road, Tolland, CT with a funeral home service following thereafter at 6 pm.
