William Zavarella, 69, passed away February 25, 2017 in Palm Harbor, FL.
Joanna Zavarella, 68, passed away May 17, 2017 also in Palm Harbor, FL.
They were long-time residents of Tolland, CT. Both were active members at St. Bernard’s Church as lay members, involved in a Small Christian Community group, choir, Summerfest, and teaching Religious Education classes.
William was a talented artist who graduated from the Art Institute of Boston. He enjoyed painting, cartooning, and making movies with his family. He also loved everything Disney, and music by The Carpenters. Bill worked for many years as a salesman at Ideal Rack in East Hartford, CT. Joanna was a gifted teacher who first taught at St. Joseph’s School in Rockville, CT. Most recently she worked at Waddell Elementary School in Manchester, CT where she retired last June. Joann was a wonderful cook who enjoyed cooking and baking for family and friends. She also enjoyed listening to music, especially by Neil Diamond. They are predeceased by parents William and StephieZavarella, Peter and Helen Surdyka; grandparents, and very special aunts and uncles. They are survived by their beloved children Kara and fiancé Chris Kizis, Lauren and husband Don Hill, precious grandchildren Brooklyn, Trey, and Lucas. Loving brothers and sisters Steve, Tom and Patty Zavarella, Jan and Ken Butler. Special aunts and uncles Sophie Krupa, Walter Sycz, Jay and Horace Burnham; and several close cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Relatives and friends may join the family for Joanna from 5-7pm on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at Burke-Fortin Funeral Home, 76 Prospect St, Rockville, CT. A Mass of Christian burial will be held for Mr. & Mrs. Zavarella at St. Bernard’s Church in Rockville, CT on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at 10am (Which would have been their 42nd wedding anniversary).
