Obituary for Josephine A. Houck

Josephine Amalia Houck (Nee) Federici passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 after a long illness. Josephine was born in Springfield, MA to the late Dr. Louis and Francis Federici in 1930. She was a graduate of Classic High School in 1948. Josephine was a graduate of Mount Auburn School of Nursing in 1951 and attended a post graduate course in surgical technique at University Hospital in Philadelphia. Josephine held nursing positions at the Springfield Infirmary, Wesson Hospital, Mt. Holyoke Hospital and Holzer Hospital in Gallipolis, Ohio. Later in her nursing career, she practiced as a private duty nurse at Springfield and Wesson hospitals in Springfield, MA. Josephine was married to Kenneth R. Houck originally from Gallipolis, Ohio, Josephine and Kenneth have been residence of Tolland, CT for 42 years. During that period of time Josephine was active as a choir member in the parishes of St. Matthew’s Church in Tolland for 10 years and St. Joseph’s Church in Willimantic, CT for another 10 years. Josephine always the compassionate animal lover was internationally known for her prize winning German Doberman Pinchers which she bred and raised. In addition to her husband, Josephine leaves her sister Elina Houck of East Longmeadow, her brother Gerard L. Federici of Ringwood, New Jersey and several nieces and nephews in New Jersey and Massachusetts. Josephine will be waked at the Tolland Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Merrow Road, Tolland on Saturday, September 23, 2017 between 5pm-7pm. A Funeral Home Service will follow at 7pm.
