Obituary for Dorothy T. Novak (Zagaja)

Dorothy T. Novak (Zagaja)
Dorothy Theresa (Zagaja) Novak, 96, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2017. She was born in Shenandoah, PA January 22, 1921 to the late John and Julia (Wegrzyn) Zagaja. She was the oldest of eight children. After graduating high school the family moved to Hartford, CT. She married Frank J. Novak in April 1946 and lived in Rockville. They joined St. Joseph Church in 1947 where Dorothy was a faithful communicant until her death. She looked forward to attending the Women’s Church groups with her dearest friend Wanda Satkiewicz. She was very proud of her Polish heritage and was a lifetime member of Polish Women’s Alliance of America. Faith gave her strength; family and friends gave her joy. She worked for two years at Sage & Allen in Hartford and then 17 years at the Vernon Store until her retirement. She is survived by a daughter, Kathleen A. Novak Sousa and her husband Arthur of Springfield, MA and a son, Stephen J. Novak and his wife Rita of Coventry. Other survivors are her youngest brother, Jack Zagaja and his wife Rosalind of East Windsor; a brother-in-law, Raymond Kryzak of Wethersfield; sisters-in-law, Blanche Bill of Rockville and Norma Zagaja of Rocky Hill. She had many grandchildren and great grandchildren and relatives of her son’s extended family. She was predeceased by her sisters, Helen Karp, Lillian Provost, Claire Dumeer, Irene Kryzak and two brothers, Joseph and Leonard Zagaja. Her son and daughter are grateful to Judy, Mary and Janice who watched over their mom at Pitkat Congregate for the last 5 ½ years, and to Milka and staff of Utopia Assisted Living. Gentle care given to Dorothy in the North Wing of Fox Hill, Vernon, and support to her children will always be appreciated. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Monday, January 8, 2018 at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph’s Church, 33 West St., Rockville. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family and there will be no calling hours. Burke-Fortin Funeral Home, 76 Prospect st, Rockville is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dorothy’s name to St. Joseph’s Church, 33 West St., Rockville, CT 06066 or the Vernon Ambulance, 280 West St. Rockville, CT 06066.
