Obituary for Vina Ouellette

Vina Ouellette

Vina (Jandreau) Ouellette of Vernon passed away peacefully on April 12, 2018 at Rockville General Hospital with her family by her side. She was born on December 9, 1928 in St. Francis, ME, the 5th of 14 children, to the late Victor and Isabelle (Gagnon) Jandreau. Vina was predeceased by the love of her life, Leonard, in 2014 after almost 68 years of marriage. She was also predeceased by her first born, Carl, in 2014. Besides raising her eight children Vina worked at Roosevelt Mills for many years. She then worked at various health care facilities which allowed her to offer friendship and support to the elderly. She retired for the first time at age 70 only to return again because she missed the camaraderie of the residents. She enjoyed bowling with, as she put it, the "old people" until she was 80. It was not unusual for any of her children to drop in for a visit and end up staying for a home cooked meal. Her grandchildren would often wonder what special treat Memere was baking on Saturday morning, along with the donuts that were always just coming out of the pan. Vina leaves her children and their spouses Arlene (Allen) of Charlestown, RI, June of Vernon, Paula of Palm Coast, FL, Penny (Brian) of Vernon, Lee-Ann (Dave) of Windsor, Joyce (Alan) of Ellington, Lenny (Anne) of Tolland, and daughter in law Judy of West Willington. She also leaves 16 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and 6 great, great grandchildren. She leaves her siblings Winnie, Hansley, Marybelle, Nadine, Angy, Margie, Nelson and Calvin. She was predeceased by sisters and brothers Bella, Verna, Pat, Marvin and Irene, as well as many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the nurses, aides and staff at Fox Hill Center for their years of compassionate care, love and support and also the staff in the ICU and on Bissell 2, as well as the hospice nurses at RGH. Their care and heartfelt concern were truly appreciated. Relatives and friends may join the family on Thursday, April 19, 2018 between 4-7pm at the Burke-Fortin Funeral Home, 76 Prospect Street, Rockville, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, April 20, 2018 at 10am at St. Bernard Church, 25 St. Bernard’s Terrace, Vernon, CT. Burial will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery, Vernon.
