Obituary for Joseph Franklin

Joseph "Joe" Franklin,75, of Broad Brook passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Wednesday, April 25, 2018. He was born on June 27, 1942 in Providence, Rhode Island. He was predeceased by his father, Joseph Franklin, mother Etta Kloos Franklin, and sister Etta Wilson.
Prior to his retirement, Joe was employed for many years in the Hotel industry, as well as the car business, and was a Veteran in the U.S. Air Force.
Joe was an avid fan of boxing, and enjoyed sailing "the sea of diamonds". His first love was family. He ventured to many places and vacationed with the love of his life, "his bride", Sandy. Joe was known for his quick wit, storytelling, and his colorful sense of humor. He also had a profound love for his dogs and they will miss him dearly.
Joe is survived by his wife of 36 years, Sandra MacVarish Franklin, his children, Joseph Franklin, Amy Tigno and Zachery Pearson and his wife Christine, two grandsons Tyler Tigno and Dylan Gruendel, two grandaughters Ellie and Rylan, beloved sister Alice Marchant and husband Harold, nieces, nephews and many close and dear friends, and especially childhood best friend Michael Moriarty.
Special thanks to Dr. Flaherty of Saint Francis Hospital and Dr.Mclaughlin of John A Dequattro Cancer Center. Joe's family is forever thankful for the compassionate care given to him by the wonderful nursing staff at Masonicare of Wallingford - Eileen, Stacey, Karen, and social worker Sandy.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 5, 2018 with calling hours from 1-3 pm at the Burke-Fortin Funeral Home located at 76 Prospect St., Rockville-Vernon, CT., with a private burial at the convenience of the family.
