Obituary for Herbert L. Lloyd

Herbert L. Lloyd, 68, of Tolland passed away peacefully on November 8, 2018 at St. Francis Hospital. He was born on December 15, 1949 in Houlton, ME to the late Lewis James Lloyd and Avis (Gidney) Lloyd. “The Herb” was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother. He was predeceased by the love of his life, Kathleen (O’Neill) Lloyd and is survived by his son, Jameson; his daughter-in-law, Jennifer and by his two granddaughters, Mackenzie and Aubrie who were the center of his world. He is also survived by his five sisters, Shirley, Polly, Mary, Lois and Gloria and their families.

He graduated from Rockville High School and served his country for six years in the CT Air National Guard. He was a former Teamster and worked for Della Construction for a number of years before moving on to work in the Engineering Labs at Hamilton Standard for 30 years as a proud member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, Lodge 743. After his retirement in 2012, he discovered all the new things that life had to offer. He enjoyed his trips with the breakfast club, lunches with friends at Papa T’s, evenings spent having wine and dinner at the Tolland Inn, catching up with friends from Hamilton and most of all, going to car shows with great friends and cruising in his Hot Rod. His ’32 Ford was his passion, his calling card and his source of great enjoyment after Kathy passed. He found pleasure in driving with friends or loading his granddaughters in the rumble seat and just, “going and doing stuff.” He always had a passion for clocks, whether it be fixing them, maintaining antiques or getting them to keep exact time. He found a creative outlet by integrating everyday items with clocks in a form of sculpture he titled “Repurpose for a Purpose.”

He was always the one you could turn to for whatever you needed, whenever you needed it and he always imparted wisdom and knowledge in the process of helping you out. He will be greatly missed by all of his friends and family, and to serve his memory best, stop to really appreciate the beauty of a cool car, truck or bike, smoke a good cigar, spend time with family, share some good stories with your friends and take the time to just enjoy the drive.

Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family from 5 to 7 PM on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at the Tolland Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Merrow Rd. (Rte. 195) Tolland, CT 06084. A Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 523 Hartford Tpke. Vernon, CT 06066. Burial will follow at South Cemetery, Tolland.
