Obituary for George J. Fliegelman

George J Fliegelman II, 82, of Coventry passed away surrounded by family on Monday, December 10, 2018. He was born in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania to Ethel (Luick) Fliegelman and George J Fliegelman. He served in the United States Army and was stationed in Landstuhl, Germany, where his eldest son was born. After his service, he returned to the US where his family continued to grow. He became a sales manager for numerous commercial paper merchants across the northeast region. He was known for his good humor and gift of gab, especially when it came to sports. He was also a member of the company softball teams while at Allied Printing and Chatfield Paper for many years. He owned Country Ice Cream and Deli in Coventry in 1987. It was a place where the town’s people could gather. He was a part of the culture of the town and cherished that. He was also known widely for his role in coaching girl’s softball in Coventry. As a season ticket holder for UCONN sports for 42 years, he attended games religiously even as his health declined. His blood ran true blue not only for his Huskies, but for his Yankees as well. Above all he loved his family. He looked forward to Sunday dinners cooked by the love of his life, and wife of 48 years, Barbara Fliegelman. He was constantly surrounded by family which propelled him on as he fought many health issues and eventually cancer. He also leaves behind his sons Mark Fliegelman, George Fliegelman and his wife Marion, David Fliegelman and his wife and Sandy, and Michael McCarthy and his wife Carolyn. In addition, he leaves his daughters Deborah McCarthy and her husband Kevin Burgie, Tara Wesoloskie and her husband Cory, and Patty Hurst. His granddaughter Colette Grandpre also was a big part of his everyday life. He will be missed by his 32 grandchildren and great grandchildren. His Sunday dinner crew Nick, Caroline, Charlotte, Henry, Jack, Ryder, Oliva, Hunter and Kyle will miss him dearly as well. He is predeceased by his parents, his sister Patricia, his daughter in law Lynn, and his grandchildren Heather and Matthew. Relatives and friends may join the family on Saturday, December 15, 2018 between 11am-1pm with a Funeral Home Service at 1pm at the Coventry-Pietras Funeral Home, 2665 Boston Turnpike, Coventry. Burial will be held on Monday, December 17, 2018 at 12pm at the State Veterans Cemetery, 317 Bow Lane, Middletown, CT, 06457.
