Obituary for MaryEllen Therese Powers

MaryEllen Therese Powers, age 74, of Mashpee, MA, formerly of Tolland, CT passed away peacefully on November 8, 2019 surrounded by her loving family.

She is survived by her two sons; Tim Powers and his wife Shireen, and Kevin Powers and his wife Deb; two grandchildren, Aedan and Ella Powers; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She is predeceased by her son Sean Powers, who was a great son, brother, and friend.

MaryEllen was born in Clinton, Massachusetts to the late Joseph and Teresa (Grady) Nicewicz. She is preceded in death by her brothers Robert Nicewicz and James Nicewicz. She attended Notre Dame Academy in Worcester, MA, following she obtained her nursing degree from St. Vincent Hospital School of Nursing in Worcester, MA. She held a variety of nursing positions at St. Vincent’s, Rockville General in Rockville, CT and University of Connecticut in Storrs, CT. Her patients were always well cared for and enjoyed a few good laughs to boot.

A wonderful woman and caregiver, she loved to travel and meet people. Her loving nature always involved more concern for others than for herself. Her greatest pleasures included time spent with her children, grandchildren, and all of her family and friends. She loved a “Good Show”, was at her best when things got “Crazy” and always, “Um-hum”, enjoyed a good time.

Gratefully, the immediate family would like to express our sincere thank you for the wonderful care and support given by Hospice of Cape Cod and the multiple family and friends that helped her through her cancer journey.

Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family from 4 to 7 PM on Friday, November 22, 2019 at the Tolland Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Merrow Rd. (Rte. 195) Tolland, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, November 23, 2019 at St. Matthew's Church, 111 Tolland Green, Tolland, CT. Burial will follow at South Cemetery, Tolland.
