Obituary for Richard E. Miller

Richard “Dick” Miller, 92, of Storrs, CT passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 14, 2019. He was born in Brooklawn, New Jersey to Amos C. Miller and Isabell (Shackett) Miller. The family moved to Middlebury, VT when he was a young child and was raised on a dairy farm, eventually working the farm with his brother Amos. He moved to Hartford, CT in 1952 and was employed by Pratt & Whitney where he worked on the assembly floor for 37 years retiring in 1989. Dick married Beverly (Garvey) Miller on July 28, 1952. They raised four children in the Hartford area before retiring and moving to Storrs in 1989. Dick had a passion for gardening, making maple syrup and loved sharing the fruits of his labor with family and friends. He also enjoyed playing cards particularly poker and also playing horseshoes. He was predeceased by his mother Isabell (Shackett) Miller, father Amos Miller, brother Amos Miller Jr., his wife Ruth, and sister Hazel. He is survived by his wife Beverly, son Glenn Miller and his wife Andree’, daughter Judy Soucy and her husband Sandy, daughter Roxine Giguere and her husband Rejean and daughter Janice Estell and her husband Raymond. He was also survived by several nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Relatives and friends may join the family on Friday, November 22, 2019 between 10am and 12pm with a Funeral Home Service at 12pm at the Coventry-Pietras Funeral Home, 2665 Boston Turnpike, Coventry.
