I didn't know Carole passed away till just this minute and I'm so very sad to hear. When I was 17 she took me in without question when I could no longer live in my home. It was right before the holidays but she never made me feel like an unwelcome guest even though I always felt like I was a burden. She made me feel at home. I was such a lost soul at the time but I would have been even more lost without Carole and her family at that time in my life and I've been forever grateful. She shaped my life and because of her I became a foster parent and took in children without a place to go for the last 7 years because I know what it's like when someone is there for you even when your own parents aren't. I will say a prayer for Carole and her family, and I'm sorry I never got to tell her these things in person.

I was blessed with having Carole as a friend for so many years. There were many, many good times. There was the Winthrop Home on the water. I remember the many good times on the deck watching the planes. I also have many fond memories of Winter Street. We all had many great times there and the many trips to the Reservoir. And who could forget the slide down the driveway in Winter. Then there also the Medford Street, Stoneham and the condo. There is more, but these were the most frequent. Anyway, the one time that always sticks in my head was the Beach House. It all started when we found a door washed up on the beach. That was all it took. Before you know it everybody was looking for items that had washed up. We had a window, bits of furniture and some decorations. When you stood back you really saw the home. This was a once in a lifetime. We built a beach house that washed away in a few hours when the tide came in, but the memories are permanently etched. I will miss her dearly.

Carole's 5-year old grand-daughter, Callie, would go visit her nightly after getting home from school (mom lived in an in-law apt in our home). Callie would go through ALL of her jewelry (which mom had tons of). While trying on all of the jewelry, Callie would talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and then talk some more. Sometimes she would put all the jewelry back before coming home but most of the time she would just leave it all over the room for Nana to clean up. I know my mom loved these nightly visits but on occassion she would call me and say "um Kim.....I think it's time for you to come take your daughter back" Boy can Callie talk......and make a mess!!!! We love you mom - Hope you are taking a long walk on your beach in heaven with your dog right now!!!! Miss you already!

Kim, Trina, Dave, Callie, Cooper and the entire VanTyne Family; I am so saddened by the news today. Carole was a great women, I remember our trip (with Jay Szymaszek) to Martha's Vineyard... your mom had rented a house and allowed us all to crash her vacation home.. it was a spontaneous and fun weekend.. which I will never forget... I remember setting up the yard for Kim and Dave's wedding, with your Mom and Trina and Kim A .... we just laughed at every detail we tried to implement and how Kim was like.. "sure whatever you guys want". Kim you were the most laid back bride.. It was wonderful.... Thank God for your Mom, and Kim A, or it would never have been set up in time for the actual ceremony ... what I remember most is Carole saying to me, you are a good friend to Kim... and she is lucky to have you both (Kim A and myself). I will never forget the memories... I only hope that time you spent together these past few years (living with you all) will give you some memories filled with chuckles and smiles for years to come.... XOXO Love Beth

Trina and Kim I'm so sorry for the loss of your mom. I can still hear her in my head calling me Maggie MC Muffin witch she always called me after Kim started it. Your mom was always great to me even after I ran away from Denver. My heart goes out to you both. I lost my dad two years ago to cancer, I still fell the hole and the loss, but it gets better as time goes on and as life goes on. My mom and I went on vacation to London, England one year. I have so many fond memories of this trip. Since I previously lived there I knew my way around but this was Mom's first trip and she just walked around following me aimlessly pointing out everything. I was trying desperately to fit in so we didn't look so much like tourists but Mom...not so much. I remember we had this quaint little hotel near the Bakerloo line and I remember mom panicking because she couldn't read the train map so she's screaming out in the middle of the train station "does anyone know where the Ballywho line is."...haha. "Mom," I said under my breath, "it's the Bakerloo line." That trip will forever remain in my memory, it was so wonderful. Thanks Mom!

Kim and I learned to drive a stick in our little white Hyundai. In fact I think everyone in the neighborhood learned to drive a stick in that car. I remember once my mom driving down the street in that little Hyundai and when she tried to put it into 2nd gear the stick shift came out of its socket and she just looked at me with the stick shift in hand unattached to the car and laughed. I think everything broke on that car except for the sunroof which was pretty much the only thing under warranty Needless to say, we never had a Hyundai in the family again.
