Maryanne,
I am so sorry for you.
I’m “gut kicked” by all of this – “stunned"
My eyes well up at the very thought of it.
The two of us communicated mostly by email and it was a consistent delight to do so.
Extraordinarily bright, he never passed up an opportunity to add a humorous quip into his ideas if humor was there to be had.
A few years ago I asked him to review hundreds of pages of critically important text – not surprisingly, he did just that and did it expertly. This at a time when none of my own relatives would take on anything longer than about two sentences.
For a man as well educated as he was, he also carried a certain disguised “devil may care” swagger to himself. Very much of a “man’s man,” who took pride in the dangerous nature of his military duties -- also enjoying visiting about the goings on of national sports teams.
I still don’t know how he did it to me, but “somehow” he got me to read and study all of the classic texts of human civilization – imagine the fulfillment I feel inside me for having made the effort!
“Brutally honest” in all of our communications, yet “bending over” funny in the process.
A quality man who I am certain I will never again meet the likes of.
Good God I’m going to miss him – what a terrible loss.
